Introduction to case
A 13-year-old girl, Nary (given name), live with her aunt and grandmother since her parent divorced and all her siblings separated. The case was identified since 2024 through case conference involved by local authorities, relevant officers, MRO and other service providers. Because Nary had been left out with her aunt since her biological family migrated to Thailand.
The relative’s family was then identified as kinship care after the aunt was willing to take care Nary and committed to provide her with food, cloths, and education. However, the family in a bit far from the community in a rural area in Battambang province. The ordinary work of this aunt is farming to support their living.
Because they are widows and getting older, they could not continue with farming, so the living situation became harder which Manou is facing send out to living in Residential Care center.
The progress to access support
Through the visitation, MRO team did assessment to see the commitment from the aunt as well as Nary regarding the next plan while facing such difficult situation and the result found that, they would not separate or willing to send Manou to RCI, saying that “whatever situation, we will still take care of her!” stated the aunt, and Nary also raised that “I love living with my aunt and I don’t want to go away from them.”.
The aunt was supported to vocational training after the conference in 2024 with sewing skill and in 2025 MRO provided her with sewing machine in order to help her started small business in her community. This was given her more source of income to sustain the family situation as well as help improve their living standard and to support well being for Nary and her education.
Improvement after small business started
In June 2025, the small business of sewing was started with the confidence while the skill was equipped. At the beginning, there were quiet but from time to time the local costumers started to receive her service and the business is known to them with supports which led to more income to scale down their difficulties and moving up a level of living better.
At the present, the business keeps growing and they really enjoy of doing it. Happily, expression, the aunt really thankful to MRO for the machine which helped her very much to improve the living standard, especially for Nary which the family could support her very well. MRO really proud of the kinship care and could see the progress that prove the preventing family separation unnecessary.
