Millions of children in Africa grow up without a birth certificate, leaving them unable to access education, healthcare, or legal protections. Girls are disproportionately affected due to gender inequality and social norms. Your support helps us register vulnerable children, giving them a legal identity and a real chance to thrive. Far too many young girls in Zimbabwe live under their husband's identity with cell phone contracts in their name and any salary going to the mans bank account.
In many communities across Africa, children are denied basic rights because they were never registered at birth. Girls are especially at risk due to cultural and gender norms: without papers, they often cannot go to school, open bank accounts, access healthcare, or safely participate in society. Orphans and vulnerable children face similar barriers. In Zimbabwe, hundreds of children still remain without documentation, and those born outside the country are particularly at risk.
We identify children without birth certificates, focusing on girls and other vulnerable children who face the greatest barriers. Before registration, we ensure all their documents are complete and ready. A trained community member (chaperone) accompanies each child to the local government office, oversees the process, and ensures safe transport. For orphans and children in care, we can organize group registrations to maximize reach. Our goal is to make the process safe, smooth, and accessible.
Since starting, we've helped 650 children gain legal identity, with hundreds more still waiting. Each child now has access to school, healthcare, and legal protections. While the certificate itself is free, the donation ensures safe transport, supervision, and all supporting paperwork. Our priority is girls, who face the greatest barriers, but all vulnerable children benefit. Your support enables us to reach more children, scale up mass registration, and break the cycle of disadvantage.
