This project will provide key support so this primary & nursery school with 19 teachers & 820 students can remain a top school. This is a very remote, poor community school which receives no government funding. Because our 6th grade students get top scores on their national exams, the district designated it as the model primary school for our district of 95 primary schools. To continue to provide high quality education, more funds are needed to cover items such as extra lessons & girls training.
Most of the 95 Lamwo district primary schools offer sub-standard education where few students finish 6th grade. Less than 10% of 1st graders will graduate 6th grade. This project will help provide more funds to this remote, poor, community school which has been designated the model primary school in our district. 95%+ of our students (half are girls!) who take their national 6th grade exams achieve in the top 33% which is excellent! Security and safety of teachers and students is very important.
This project will fund key school equipment & technology items, provide holiday & extra lessons to students, provide additional benefits & salary increments to teachers and provide additional security & accommodation items for teachers and school for items such as security fencing, latrine improvements, upgrades to teacher huts, & required items for the 6th grade boarding areas. This will help retain and motivate teachers, and students alike, and enable our school to be excellent & help others.
This community primary school can continue to provide an excellent education to its 800+ students so they can continue their education, complete vocational training or even university so they can earn a living and also help their families and community. Students elsewhere in the district will be helped either through more district primary schools upgrading their educational standards so students achieve at a much higher level; or students from other villages can board at our community school.
