There is ongoing need for food aid for poor Afghan families. Many families’ main income is from day laboring. The worker seeks a job for that day which enables him to buy food that evening for the family.
This is a precarious existence which is adversely affected by local economic downturn, bad weather may halt construction jobs that day, excess workers mean there is not enough work for all who need it, ill health can prevent the worker seeking a job. All these events will mean no food for the family that evening.
Displaced families are particularly vulnerable to food scarcity. These families have moved away from their homes to seek work or avoid violence and unrest. Many arrive in cities not knowing anyone and with nowhere to go. Local people direct them to AIL facilities and the organization is well known and trusted. Staff do their best to help families in need.
