While on their way to greet loved ones returning from a trip on September 12, 2024, a group of Hazara men from the Daikundi province of Afghanistan were ambushed by armed men associated with ISIS-K (Islamic State, Khorasan Province). The attackers identified the Hazara men among the passengers on a bus, lined them up and summarily executed them. 14 men were killed and 4 injured. This senseless attack was in continuation of systematic and geocidal attacks on Hazaras in Afghanistan.
The Foundation makes its utmost efforts to provide support to the victims of such heinous attacks, particularly widows and their children in such difficult times. Our team organized a fundraiser (https://goto.gg/f/52341) and raised an amount USD 1,910, that was generously matched 50% by our partner, GlobalGiving ($955). In total, we provided: $1,910 + $955 = $2,750.
Due to security reasons and the constant atmosphere of fear that the Taliban has created in the Hazara areas, our team on the ground had to be extremely discreet in distribution of our modest assistance. Our team collaborated with our partner, Baba Mazari Foundation, to reach the families and provided the much needed support. We concluded the last round of aid distribution in January 2025.
The treatment costs of the injured amounted to about 49K AFN that was paid to a hospital in Kabul. 10K spent on a severely injured, who needed urgent attention and the rest of the funds were distributed to the families of the 17 victims.
This modest assistance couldn’t have reached the families at a more needed time as the families had lost bread winners, and the harsh winter in the central highlands had arrived.
The families extended their heartfelt gratitude to the Bamyan team and our generous supporters.
Thank you,
Timor + the Bamyan Foundation team
