Transport 7000 women for Cancer treatment

By JOHN PAUL ELIMU | Project Accountant

Patient Relief Mission (PRM) exist to improve cancer care and management for female patients and their care-givers by providing hostel accommodation, transport to and from Uganda cancer institute (UCI) for treatment and three meals a day to those who come from rural areas in order to receive their treatment and who otherwise would have nowhere to stay in the city. PRM was founded with the aim of ending the needless suffering for cancer patients in Kampala, Uganda.

We have done regular maintenance of the van which will be used to transport the patients. The van has also been improved to add accessories that will facilitate the movement of patients. We are also in final stages of making the hostel habitable as the final stage of the construction. We are now in the process of preparing the compound, we are clearing the trees and bushes so as to create a calm and serene environment for the Patients when they arrive. In addition we are planting better trees that will provide comfortable shades for the patients.

Success story

The van has been improved and is now fully equipped to handle the patients and is in the best condition. The compound has also been cleared and a shelter for the van is being constructed.

We concluded the roofing of the hostel and the staff quarters and we are now constructing shades around the facility. We have also improved the road network around the hostel by grading the roads and constant maintenance so as to make the hostel more accessible.

In addition to grading the roads, we have improved the drainage around the roads in a bid to reduce the landslides that occur during heavy rains. This should also reduce on the maintenance costs.

We look forward to finishing up with the compound in the months ahead as we prepare to receive the patients with support from our kind partners.
