Help tribal children to learn and grow in India

Something special is coming. From March 17-20, your donation can go even further during GlobalGiving’s Little by Little campaign.

Thanks to GlobalGiving, all donations up to $50 (43€) will be matched at 50% while funds last. Every small gift adds up to create real change for marginalized tribal communities in India. We’re aiming to raise 500$ through this campaign.

Bharati, an eleven-year-old girl from Gopal Vasti, India, was unable to attend school because she did not have an Aadhaar Card, India’s main identity document issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). Her mother, who cannot read or write and did not know Bharati’s exact birth date, was unable to obtain the document. 

Her situation is not unique: an estimated 40 to 100 million people in India still do not have an Aadhaar number, leaving many without access to basic services such as education. Many of them—like Bharati—belong to marginalized tribal communities and remain trapped in poverty for the same reason.

With support from our fellows from the Savitri support center, Bharati was finally enrolled in school and joined the 6th grade.

Today she says: “I have developed a passion for learning. Before, I only knew doing household work. Now I understand the importance of education.”
