As we continue our work with Bulgaria’s most vulnerable families, your generosity has brought comfort, nutrition, and hope to those who need it most. In the past few months, your donations enabled us to purchase and distribute baby formula to families who could not afford even the most basic nourishment for their infants. This small but vital intervention has changed lives.
Our home-visiting program, based on the Nurse-Family Partnership model, continues to serve nearly 200 young children from low-income Roma communities in the cities of Sofia and Plovdiv. Many of the mothers we support are raising babies in conditions most of us cannot imagine – without running water, electricity, or stable income. For them, baby formula is not just food — it is survival. Your support ensures that those babies don’t go to bed hungry.
But the current reporting period also brought a heartbreaking and unexpected challenge.
In Sofia’s Zaharna Fabrika neighborhood, dozens of homeless families — including several mothers with newborns — were forcibly evicted after their makeshift homes were demolished by the city authorities just before the Easter holidays. With no shelter and no resources, these families were left on the street. Thanks to your contributions, we were able to respond immediately, delivering baby formula to infants who had suddenly lost everything — including the roof over their heads.
This was not just food aid – it was a lifeline, delivered with compassion and without conditions. Every box of formula, every warm interaction, every show of solidarity was made possible by people like you.
The need remains urgent. Inflation continues to affect food prices, and families are still struggling to feed their youngest members.
