Dear Supporters and friends,
Delmas 33, one of the safest areas in the metropolitan region, has become a refuge for many displaced families. Our partner schools here have opened their doors with compassion, welcoming children who have been uprooted from their homes and communities. These students arrive carrying not only the weight of displacement but also the burden of lost learning opportunities.
Many of these children are significantly behind in their school programs. Through no fault of their own, they struggle to keep pace with classmates who have had uninterrupted access to education. Without intervention, this gap could widen, leaving them discouraged and at risk of falling permanently behind.
Education is more than lessons; it is hope, dignity, and opportunity. These children did not choose their circumstances, but together we can choose to give them a fair chance. A well-educated student means Haiti is minus a teenager with a gun. Many of these children are frustrated, having lost parents, siblings, cousins, and friends to violence. All conditions are present for them to be recruited into gangs if we do nothing. That is why, alongside tutoring, we sometimes bring psychologists to support their mental health and help them heal.
With your support, we can initiate tutoring sessions, provide learning materials, and strengthen the safety net for displaced students. Together, we can ensure that every child, regardless of their journey, has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive—and that Haiti gains one more student instead of losing one more teenager to violence.
With gratitude,
Herold
