About 15-minute drive from Kuta is Bali's biggest official tip at Suwung, where mountains of rubbish dominate the landscape. It's a 30-hectare Trash Mountain Site. This area is also a home for 100-plus families who work in this area by sorting trash by hand, who most of them coming from Various area of Indonesia. Many of families can't afford to school their children as the results of a very small income. We help through education, empowerment, medical support and other assistant.
All of Bali's rubbish ends up in Suwung. This area is also home to more than 100 families who survive by sorting through trash with their bare hands. Most of them come from North Bali, Java, Lombok, and the Eastern Islands of Indonesia. Because of their low income, many families cannot afford to send their children to school. Now, children are growing up surrounded by rubbish. Without education, without safety, and without a future.
The vision of the BaliLife's "Suwung Community Centre" is to provide a safe place that the children and their families know and can come for support. This is a place that works to restore HOPE, DIGNITY and PURPOSE to the children who can't go to school due their parent's financial situation. We aim to do this through education, empowerment, medical support and other assistance.
We would like to work alongside the Social Department of Bali and start finding a solution for the current dump problem. Ultimately, the vision of the "Suwung Community Centre" is that the children and mums will experience practical help, to enhance their future beyond the trash area, enabling them to live a life of dignity and pride and to someday make a difference in our world, impacting future generations.
