Back to School Project
IsraAID has distributed 1856 school kits so far to students in rural earthquake affected communities as a part of its back to school project. The project is still ongoing and IsraAID aims to distribute 4000 such kits to students by the end of August. Due to the earthquake most of the students in earthquake affected areas lost their school materials including their school bags and books. So the project aims to provide these students with minimum necessary school materials that would enable to resume their studies in school. The school kits contain: a school bag, note books, pencils, pens, an eraser, a sharpner, a crayon box and a ruler.
Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)
IsraAID has partnered with the foundation in India, The Global Education and Leadership Foundation (TGELF) and have constructed 200 safe toilets to communities affected by earthquake. The toilets were constructed in areas where there were communities living in tents or temporary shelters without proper WASH facilities and in Temporary Learning Center (TLCs) areas where students in the learning centers were without proper Toilets.
Shelter
IsraAID launched its "A Roof for All" program in 2 earthquake affected districts to provide safe and sturdy transitional shelter for thousands of displaced families who have lost their homes. As a partner of the Shelter Cluster in Nepal, IsraAID's technical teams are working alongside government agencies, and other INGOs to provide transitional housing solutions that are low cost and suitable for the conditions in Nepal. IsraAID's "A Roof for All" program provided 255 houses to families in 2 districts. In Lalitpur Districts we have also provided clean drinking water, safe toilets, solar electricity and study center for children of the community.
Psycho - Social Support (PSS)
In Nepal IsraAID is a key technical partner in the effort to build and implement a national PSS response strategy, and resulting PSS activities. The program so far has targeted social workers, mental health clinicians, and outreach staff (of local and international NGOs) from the most affected districts, and has provided training on Psychological First Aid (PFA), resilience building, diversifying coping mechanism, gender-based violence, grief care, and self-care. The ultimate purpose of these activities is to prevent long-term trauma related disorders, build resilience and social connection for communities heavily affected by the 2015 earthquake, and to encourage the reintegration of child and adult survivors and the processing of grief for those who have lost family or friends. The team is working with more partners to provide technical support and supervision in the area of Mental Health and Psycho-Social Support. The project will provide technical assistance to the local NGOs and other institutions in the areas of PSS and PFA (Psycho-social First Aid), art therapy, drama therapy, music therapy, group counseling, hotline counseling and also psychiatric help. We have provided PSS and self care training to more than 1200 NGO staffs, community workers and social mobilizers. As a part of our PSS program, we have collaborated with UNICEF and TPO (Transcultural Psychological Organization) in training of community psycho-social counselors and to set up a toll-free hot line service for psycho-social support. We also have theatre project as a part of our PSS program where 3 different groups of theatre artists have worked in Nuwakot, Sindhupalchowk, Gorkha, Kavre, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur districts and have reached out to more than 16,000 people with Psychological First Aid and Psycho-Social Support to the communities.
