Holistic Rehabilitation for Post-Earthquake Nepal

What we did in 2015

IsraAID were among the first aid agencies to respond in nepal.  The search and rescue team of 15 members operated for 9 days rescuing survivors and retrieving bodies. This followed by Medical Emergency Relief teams which conducted more than 20 camps in 6 affected district and  treated over 4500 patients  till date.IsraAID also launched its "A Roof for All" Shelterprogram in 4 earthquake affected districts and provided 480  transitional houses to families  (approx. 2000 beneficiaries) and currently building 200 more in a fifth district. IsraAID also constructed 200 safe toilets as part of WASH activities. In order to assist restoring normal life and support Education in Nepal, IsraAID has distributed 4000 school kits to students in rural earthquake affected communities. For Women Empowerment and Livelihood, IsraAID have initiated the "HoneyAID" project for women empowerment by beekeeping which included training and full support throw the marketing chain for 65 women and 500 more in the coming year.

In Nepal, IsraAID is a key technical partner in the effort to build and implement a national Psycho Social Support response strategy, and resulting PSS activities.  IsraAID is building capacity for different local entities and with international experts, trained more than 1500 beneficiaries. IsraAID’s ongoing Theater activities include several groups which preformed hundreds of times in front of a total audience of 23,000 people. The plays are providing social massages and awareness about Gender base violence, Trauma and other topics. IsraAID has distributed 4000 school kits to students in rural earthquake affected communities.

Winter has come – Relief work is not done yet

Out of total affected households, 323,000 households lie above 1500m from sea level. As the 14 most earthquake affected districts lies in the Northern Himalayan belt of Nepal, winter in those districts can be very harsh. a survey conducted by Nepal shelter cluster in earthquake affected districts on October 2015 found that 200,000 affected households will be spending winter in temporary shelters. Most in danger are The children who will face brutal winter in those temporary shelters in Temperature peaking up to -10° C (50 F) . As winter started, this is an emergency relief mission directly related to the devastating earthquake which IsraAID is addressing in such matter. IsraAID has initiated “Beat the winter” project to protect young children – age 3-12, from the harsh winter with clothing items, blankets and education, serving 150 children till date in villages above 2000mt high.
