It’s an exciting time at India Home, thanks to the support of our donors and community!
We’ve expanded services at two of our five senior centers and we’re happy to share that we now serve older adults seven days a week! Our Elmhurst center is now open on Mondays in addition to Thursdays, and at our Jamaica Estates location, we’ve implemented a biweekly Retired Professionals Circle on Sundays.
Thanks to the support from the CTA Foundation we mentioned in our previous report, we were able to build a dedicated computer lab for our seniors to use in our Saturday technology classes. The lab includes eight desktop computers, eight laptops, a high-resolution projector and screen, and a new printer, as well as senior-friendly accessories. With the help of our volunteers, we also developed a new culturally-tailored digital literacy curriculum for our Saturday classes that uses the devices in the new computer lab. A highlight of the past few months was our Computer Lab Inauguration, where we kicked off the new curriculum and opened the lab for seniors to use as needed.
This past weekend, we hosted our 2025 Annual Gala, raising money for our South Asian Community Home project. We’d like to extend our gratitude to everyone who attended and donated generously. It was a great time for all, and it means so much to us to see all the many ways our community supports us. If you weren’t able to attend, you can still donate at https://givebutter.com/IHGALA.
With the proceeds from the Gala, along with a $100,000 grant from the New York City Council, we’re in a good place to continue with the renovations. We’re still waiting on our public assembly permits to be approved, but we should have more to share with you soon. Thank you for your continued support as we work to create a home for the South Asian community in Queens. Your generosity is greatly appreciated by our seniors.
