Thank you for your generous support to the GlobalGiving Hope in Crisis Fund! Too often, overlooked crises are depicted in ways that suggest local communities are unable to respond or support one another. Yet, local nonprofit organizations within the GlobalGiving community consistently demonstrate they are leading incredible work in impossible situations and can do so much more if they had access to more resources.

This year, the Hope in Crisis Fund supported seven grants to high-impact, community-led nonprofit organizations in Yemen and Burkina Faso–two countries that face crises and have not received the necessary attention of communities facing extreme danger and catastrophe.

In Yemen, years of conflict have left millions struggling, while in Burkina Faso, increasing violence has forced communities to flee their homes, leaving many without access to basic services. Funding freezes and the discontinuation of USAID contracts have only made it harder for local nonprofits to deliver their critical work.

Here is a short description of the critical work you are supporting

  • Sanid Organization for Relief and Development is distributing food baskets and Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) for children suffering from acute malnutrition, and nutritional supplements for pregnant and lactating women.
  • Tigoung Nonma is providing wheelchairs and other essential items for people with disabilities in their community in Burkina Faso, while creating livelihood opportunities for local community members through a local restaurant employing these individuals.
  • Pananetugri Fund in Burkina Faso is offering medical care and counseling to survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), and anti-violence community trainings to combat SGBV.

Here is what one nonprofit leader shared about receiving a grant from the Hope in Crisis Fund:

Your grant is not just funding; it is a lifeline. You are a truly wonderful gift to people in desperate need." - Abdullah, Building Foundation for Development

Your support of the GlobalGiving Hope in Crisis Fund powers community-led responses, and it means people like Abdullah get the critical resources they need to help their community during protracted and complex crises.

With gratitude,

Kyra + the GlobalGiving Team

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
