Upliftment of women: A need for a better tomorrow

By Julia Matthew | Managing Director

Dear Friends,

We welcome you to our report on the Women’s Shelter, ‘House of Hope”.

India today is becoming more and more an unequal society and women are facing so many problems which are widespread at home and workplace. Many women face exploitation, harassment, lack of job opportunities, and no proper education and no proper home.

El Shaddai charitable Trust recognized the need to ensure that women are made to be independent and feel independent. And so with this view in mind, the ‘House of Hope ‘Shelter was opened as a ray of Hope to women who now could choose to live the life that they dreamt of.

The House of Hope is presently an abode for such women. Many of these women have been abandoned by their families or living on the streets. Their once home is no longer a ‘Home’ to them.  At the House of Hope, they are provided with a warm, secure, peaceful and loving environment.

The women in this home are currently learning embroidery, weaving, and Tailoring. Their recent work of art is a Disney Princess hand bag and a door mat made entirely of cloth materials. This really helps them to enhance their creativity and teaches them, how to use old clothes to transform into something new and trendy. With their new acquired skill, they will be able to use this to gain employment opportunities and a feeling of confidence and motivation.

Every month the shelter is visited by doctors from the health centers. It is very important that first priority is to be given to their health as, many of these women have not been getting their necessary medical check-ups earlier.

Along with a Home to call their own, we offer counselling services so that they can get back to a normal life they once had.

With the help of your donation, women will be able to get a new start to life.

Thanking you all for your continued love and support.
