"Empowering Orphans Through Education"

As part of its commitment to improving education and academic achievement for orphaned children, The Iraqi Children’s Hope (ICHOPE) has developed and implemented a comprehensive tutoring program. This initiative is designed to enhance students’ performance in reading, writing, and time management while addressing the psychological and social challenges they face. Many of these children struggle with the absence of family support and are further burdened by issues such as anxiety, depression, and difficulty interacting with others.

Customized Educational Programs
In collaboration with resident teachers, ICHOPE has tailored its tutoring program to meet the individual needs of each student. The program includes:

• Tutoring Classes: Providing essential academic support to elementary and middle school students, helping them complete their homework and strengthen their understanding across core subjects. These subjects include Math, English, Science, and Arabic, with a particular focus on reading and writing skills.

• Psychological Support: Counseling sessions for students experiencing anxiety and depression, fostering emotional resilience and building self-confidence.
• Skill Development: Intensive courses focused on improving critical skills, including reading, writing, and time management.
• Motivation and Encouragement: Continuous support to boost students’ self-esteem and inspire a positive attitude toward learning.
• Teamwork and Social Development: Activities designed to promote cooperation, strengthen peer relationships, and enhance interaction with teachers.

Remarkable Impact on Students
ICHOPE’s efforts have led to significant improvements in students’ academic performance, self-confidence, and ability to work collaboratively. The organization has observed noticeable progress among students participating in the program, as they become more motivated and prepared to succeed academically.

Achievements in 2024
This year, the tutoring program has positively impacted 187 students across Iraq, with the dedicated support of 18 teachers and 11 volunteers. The beneficiaries include:

• 95 students from Basra City
• 67 students from Samawa City
• 25 students from Baghdad

GIVE THE GIFT OF KNOWLEDGE, October 2024

This report will cover what ICHOPE achieved during the 2023-2024 school academic.

Last academic year was a wonderful year for our students. Iraqi Children’s Hope was set to help these children to continue going to school. The end of the school year showed amazing results.  

• We started with 318 students attending our program in October 2023.
• At the end of the school year, 95.6% of our students were successful in passing and advanced to the next grades.
• Most of those students were in elementary schools, with some in middle school and a few in high school.
• Our students had difficulty understanding school material and struggled to complete their assignments. They struggled with different subjects, but English, math, and science posed their biggest challenges.   
• More than 19 volunteers people supported this program by working with the children and their families as well as providing logistic support.
• We had 23 teachers who provided tutoring, support, and encouragement to our students as they worked on school assignments. 
• Our staff also worked with 3 learning centers to register some of these students in tutoring programs.

During this program, we found some children had medical issues such as vision, and was hard for them to read and focus on the book they read. I C HOPE staff contact physical exam clinics to have physical checkups, blood tests, vision tests, and dental checkups for those children. 

11 Children visited the clinic, our staff saw the enjoyment in the children’s eyes when they walked into the clinic room to meet the doctor.

Amira, who is 8 years old, was smiling and happy when she finished her eye examination saying: I have never been to eyes vision center and never seen the vision screener, it is a wonderful experience I had, she added.
