Hurricane Dorian Emergency Support

We are continuing to work with the community of Pinedale in their Stronger Community Centre. Here are just a few activities we've been busy with recently:

As our tutoring program, 'Bridging The Gaps,' continues, the students are progressing in different academic skills, including timetables, division, reading, comprehension, vocabulary, and sentences. We have also seen an increase in class attendance. 

The music program has had an overwhelming interest and we are forever grateful, and the community has been very supportive and committed to this program. In our Youth Creativity Music Program, the music tutors focused on the mastery of playing musical pieces and reading and understanding notes, beats, and rhythms, as well as the art of playing in harmony. We have successfully launched our Youth Creativity Computer Program for the youth in the community. The aim of this program is for the students to be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

The Disaster Risk Reduction program for the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) was completed, following which the participants were awarded certificates for their participation. They expressed their appreciation for the training and the expertise of the trainer. Topics included First Aid, CPR & AED, Search and Rescue, Disaster Psychology, Response to Terrorist Threats, Response to Downed Power Lines, and Fire Extinguisher Training. Efforts are underway to recruit additional persons to repeat the sessions for additional people.

We are continuting to upgrade the building's infrastructure to upgrade the facilities and make it hurricane resistant, essential for any community building in the region. The restrooms renovations were completed, resulting in fully functional restrooms for the use of the center's beneficiaries, a new hot water heater has been installed, and hurricane-resistant windows and doors are in the process of being installed.
