Since you have donated, the Hurricane Helene Relief Fund has supported 18 grants to high-impact and community-led nonprofits at the forefront of this crisis. 

Here’s what one local grant recipient wants you to know about the impact of your donation:

Here is a short description of some of the critical work you’ve supported: 

• United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County led the coordination of resources and volunteers in the Asheville area, helping connect residents with temporary shelter, housing assistance, food banks, and emergency supplies. They also launched the Helene Recovery Fund, which provides financial assistance to individuals and families, supports youth programming, and meets the urgent needs of local nonprofits.
  
  
• BeLoved Asheville focuses on building community-driven solutions to challenges around housing, health, education, and employment. In response to Hurricane Helene, they quickly mobilized to deliver critical aid—distributing food and heaters, creating temporary water and satellite infrastructure, and delivering medications to elderly residents. They are now prioritizing home rebuilding and repairs, employing local residents who lost income due to the storm.
  
  
• Mountain BizWorks supports small businesses through loans, cohort-based learning, and one-on-one coaching. In response to Helene, they launched the WNC Strong Helene Business Recovery Fund to offer low-interest loans to affected business owners. The demand is overwhelming, and your donation is enabling them to expand their capacity and process more applications for financial assistance.
  
  
• MANNA FoodBank serves a 16-county region in Western North Carolina, which was significantly impacted by the storm. Although their main facility sustained major damage, the team has worked tirelessly to resume large-scale food distribution to communities still struggling to recover.
  
  
• Vecinos is a free clinic that addresses the primary and behavioral healthcare needs of uninsured and underinsured patients in six counties of Western North Carolina.  In the aftermath of Helene, Vecinos has  provided financial assistance to individuals affected by income loss or housing damage. . The clinic continues to coordinate access to vital social services for their patients, including legal assistance, domestic violence support and nutritional services—many of which were exacerbated or caused by Helene. Vecinos will soon open a Community Health Hub, after significant repairs were made due to damage caused by Helene.

Here is a short description of some of the critical work you’ve supported: 

• Unity in Disasters is helping Hurricane Helene survivors clean up after the storm, find flexible resources for support, and take on home repairs. Its team is focused on helping renters and underinsured individuals and families who are less able to access recovery assistance.
  
• Institute for Diversity and Inclusion in Emergency Management is conducting outreach and assessment of areas hit hardest by Helene to ensure that all needs are met and voices heard, especially disenfranchised communities in Georgia, the Carolinas, and Florida who face a long road to recovery from the storm.
• SBP is helping the most at-risk survivors navigate the FEMA appeals program in order to unlock funding to support their full recoveries, including support for home repairs and rebuilds in partnership with local organizations and state officials.
