Edu Fun's mission is to improve English literacy for learners in Grades 2 and 3 at Diepsloot Combined School (DCS) and other underserved schools in Diepsloot. Our ultimate goal is to empower 70 local youth to teach 3,000 children annually across the 7 primary schools using the Phono-Graphix Reading method in Diepsloot. The hope is that every Grade 3 learner will enter Grade 4 being able to read in English for meaning, thereby fostering strong educational foundations and empowering whole communities.
We are thrilled to share the success of our recent holiday programme, designed to provide a stimulating and joyful break for our second and third-grade scholars. Thanks to your support, we were able to offer a vibrant mix of activities that not only kept children engaged but also directly advanced our core mission: building strong literacy and reading comprehension skills. Our amazing tutors organised and ran the annual winter 3-day programme for 185 children. The activities included pre-literacy, reading, sport, dance and art.
This holistic approach ensures that learning doesn't stop when the book closes. By integrating movement, rhythm, and play, we are helping children make vital neural connections, fostering a love for learning that is both physical and intellectual.
Whilst the programme has always focused on the children, as our tutoring programme expands and more of our tutors pursue a career in Education, this programme is also a wonderful opportunity for our teachers in training to gain valuable experience and experiment with their various teaching styles and strategies.
The last Semester of our academic year is in full swing and we are looking forward to celebrating International Literacy Day next month on the 8th of September. The theme for this year is "Promoting literacy in the digital era" and we looking forward to sharing photos and the celebrations that our tutors will be facilitating.
Any funds raised on this platform go towards the items listed below. We appreciate your continued support.
