Project #61462: Improving Mental Well-being of IDPs in the conflict affected English speaking parts of Cameroon
Humanity First Association of Cleaners (HUFAC-CAMEROON) is pleased to report on the significant progress and impact of Project 61462, "Improving Mental Well-being of IDPs in the conflict affected English speaking parts of Cameroon." This project which aims to provide critical psychosocial support and mental health services to internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by the ongoing conflict in the English-speaking regions of Cameroon. Over the course of the project, HUFAC-CAMEROON has been able to reach and support 1,245 IDPs, including 756 women and 489 men, through individual and group counseling sessions, referrals to specialized mental health services, and community-based support programs. The feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive, with many reporting improved coping mechanisms, reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression, and a renewed sense of hope and resilience.
Application of Funds and Impact: The $100 raise grant from GlobalGiving including support from people of good will, has been instrumental in allowing HUFAC-CAMEROON to effectively implement this project. The funds have been used to train and deploy a team of 6 mental health professionals, establish temporary counseling centers in IDP camps, and provide transportation and essential supplies to facilitate access to services. As a result, the project has had a tangible impact on the lives of the targeted beneficiaries, with 82% of participants reporting improved mental well-being and a 67% reduction in the prevalence of severe mental health issues among the IDP population served. With $24,900 remaining to be realized, HUFAC-CAMEROON remains committed to continuing its efforts to support the mental health and resilience of those affected by the ongoing conflict in Cameroon.
