Between May and August 2025, the project En Pro de la Mujer Península continued to strengthen the economic empowerment of Indigenous women in Campeche and Yucatán by improving their productive and organizational capacities through meliponiculture.
One of the most important achievements was surpassing the annual beehive target, with a total of 1,058 active hives, exceeding the planned 1,020. This growth is part of a strategy that aims to provide each woman with at least three hives, laying the foundation for sustainable and dignified income generation in the medium term.
In terms of training, 175 hours of technical instruction were delivered— a significant increase from the previous year. The sessions focused on production techniques, transforming honey into value-added products, and organizational skills, all essential for the development of community microenterprises.
The project also reached 261 active participants, exceeding the annual goal of 220. Economically, it generated a profit equivalent to 861 units, approaching the annual target of 1,027, with the monthly cost per participant remaining within the planned range.
Peer learning among women producers
During the reporting period, an experience exchange took place between new women’s groups from the municipality of Santa Elena and two consolidated Productive Units: “Flor de Cera” in Dzan and “Flor de Mayo” in Maní, Yucatán.
The host producers shared their work methods in the meliponary, how they organize the care and maintenance of hives, and how they manage their honey transformation workshops. This exchange allowed the new participants to observe real examples of collaborative work, business management, and local commercialization.
