Project Title: Indigenous Women Access Local Markets
Due to the roles assigned by a society where patriarchal culture predominates, women have been relegated to domestic chores and household care, limiting their potential for empowerment and economic independence.
Since its inception in 1993, the COMAL Network has sought the establishment of fair relations between men and women, especially in relation to the market the principles of fair price weight and economic transparency are promoted.
Main achievements:
In this period in order to ensure market access for the products produced by farmers and indigenous women, the craft fair was held in the community of El Porvenir, Siguatepeque. Several producers from community organizations accompanied by the COMAL Network participated in the event. In addition to being a space for the visibility and promotion of the products, the participants generated some income from the sale of their products.
There was also an exchange of experiences on the production of bee honey and its derivatives. Twenty-one women from the same number of community organizations that work with apiaries in rural communities in the departments of La Paz, Intibucá and Lempira participated in this exchange. The women learned new techniques and knowledge to add value to their products, using beehive wax and honey.
On behalf of the women beekeepers, we would like to thank everyone in the GlobalGiving community for their valuable financial support to improve the living conditions of rural and indigenous families.
