Fantastic clear blue sky: carrying away our hopes and dreams for the future.

By Eitan Oren | IsraAID Japan Country Director

Our mission is to empower the youth of Tohoku by supporting development of creativity skills.

About Youth Leadership Project:

Youth Leadership Project aims at offering workshop and experience to learn creative thinking, problem
solving and team building skills to young people in Tohoku area. The young people will be also offered the
opportunities to lead the social projects in the community and local schools, utilizing the skills they
learned, to become leaders in the local societies of Tohoku.

Summary of Activities:

Together with our partners from ADRA Japan and Hasselblad camera-maker company we have launched a project with seventeen high-school students who evacuated from Futaba city in Fukushima after the nuclear crises.

These seventeen students were evacuated on March 11th 2011, the day of the Great East Japan Earthquake and the Fukushima nuclear disaster. Being only five kilometres from the nuclear plant the high school remains inaccessible and students evacuated, without their possessions, to numerous schools around the prefecture. Since the disaster the students have been living in dormitories, in temporary accomodation or with families.

This current exhibition, "Keep on Smiling", is the memories of those students over the past three years of high school under the guidance of their form tutor, Takeshi Nakamura.
Their photos were displayed in the Hasselblad Japan gallery in Harajuku, Tokyo, between February 25 and March 6.

This unique documentation projects allows the students to reflect on their final months of high-school through the camera lens, learn and use photography techniques, and connect to their class-mates and teachers in a new way. It also allows for people who live far aways in Tokyo to connect to the students and their experience, hopes, and feelings.

We appreciate all your support and looking forward to continue our support for the youth in Tohoku.
