Dear friends of the ORSFM Maasai Community Radio project,

Thank you, as always, for your continued support of ORS-FM — the only community-led radio station in Tanzania broadcasting to the Maasai in their own language. Your generosity continues to make a real difference in keeping vital information, culture, and community connection alive.

What’s New: A Major Milestone Reached

We are delighted to share that ORS-FM has successfully purchased a new 2kW transmitter, a major step forward for the station’s long-term sustainability and broadcast reach.

To secure the transmitter, the project covered:

£4785 (original transmitter cost)

An additional £2190 paid to the supplier

£647 in import duties and taxes

The good news is that the transmitter has arrived safely in Terrat and is now on site.

What’s Next: Installation & Going Live

While the transmitter has arrived, it is not yet installed. We are currently raising the remaining funds needed to:

  • Cover installation costs
  • Bring a qualified technician to the station
  • Fully commission the transmitter so it can operate at its full 2kW capacity

Once installed, the new transmitter will significantly expand ORS-FM’s broadcast range, allowing many more Maasai households to access news, education, cultural programming, and community announcements in their own language.

Thank You

We are incredibly grateful for your patience and continued belief in this project. Every contribution has helped move ORS-FM closer to this milestone.

If you are able to support the remaining installation costs, your help would be hugely appreciated. If not, thank you for standing with us and for being part of ORS-FM’s journey.

Warm wishes from Leigh, On behalf of the whole team at SVRG
