Once again, we want to thank you for your support which is critical for Haiti and the communities that we serve.
Let us tell you about the projects that you are helping to support.
ESPWA, together with Fondation Communautaire Haitienne-Espwa/The Haiti Community Foundation is building a breadfruit transformation center to produce breadfruit flour in Haiti.
A few facts:
80% of breadfruit gets wasted in the Grand’Anse.
It’s gluten free and highly nutritious.
There’s a growing demand for it in Haiti and abroad (World Food Programme) has been using it for school lunches in Haiti).
This project is a community economic development initiative that will benefit the department, the Grand Sud region and the country.
We hire local and try to hire as many young people as possible. For every job we have, there are at least 10 more people applying for it. Per their request, we’ve adjusted our budget to increase their daily pay.
A shoutout to members of our network :
François Chavenet, our National Treasurer, as he and his family have donated the center’s land to our Foundation for this project.
L'Herisson Hilaire, our Executive Director who works tirelessly to make sure that our #community led process and impact reflect values of #solidarityand #excellenceas well as our #nationbuilding agenda.
The second photo shows the inauguration of a community center. This community group #FCOCACB (Femmes Coopératives pour la Commercialisation Agricole Coordonnée de Belance) contributed 10% of their project cost in stones and gravel, back in June 2024. This is a multi-purpose community and commercial center that this group built with the help of the #HaitiCommunityFoundation(Fondation Communautaire Haitienne-Espwa together withESPWA, Inc- Economic Stimulus Projects for Work and Action) and thanks to the support of people like you.
Well, it’s done now!
The building now supports:
--An #agricultural products transformation center;
--A #community room which will double as a shelter for community residents in times of disasters;
--An #office;
--A #storage area for products
The photo was taken on the day of the Center’s inauguration. It’s a happy one that makes us smile!
Our advice to all of us and to our communities:
Hang on to your dreams! With the right #partners,#believers,#champions and a lot of #hardwork, they may just come true!
In the midst of the challenges that we all face, and the darkness that we, sometimes cannot seem to escape, moments and images like this are incredibly uplifting!
Enjoy! And thank you so much for your support on behalf of the communities that we serve.
