Leadership Academy in My Pocket (LAMP) is WEP’s comprehensive, mobile-first technology platform. LAMP bridges access gaps for students in remote or underserved areas, providing access to courses, mentors, and micro-communities through videos, quizzes, reflections, and real-life project work. LAMP enables young women to build skills, connect with mentors, discover career pathways, and lead initiatives — all from their phones.
Working in partnership with Shikshalokam, in Bangalore, students at WEP’s Hyderabad Leadership Academy piloted the first module of LAMP: Health & Nutrition. Additional modules will be available over the next year, eventually guiding students through an exploration of 11 career pathways: Science, Environment & Sustainability; Agriculture & Food; Technology; Health & Nutrition; Hospitality & Care; Journalism, Marketing & Communication; Creative Arts & Expression; Entrepreneurship; Finance, Budgeting & Accounting; Education & Teaching; and Social Services & Civic Engagement.
Students participating in the LAMP pilot were trained to produce video content for the platform. Through the masterclass series, students have the opportunity to share knowledge with their peers, develop skills in communications and digital media production, and work with mentors. Students Divya and Kavya kicked off the masterclass series with a public panel on the topic of sustainable living, moderated by Environmentalist Tamara Law, where they discussed making their videos on sustainable gardening methods:
“… I shared my experiences of growing a kitchen garden in a 200-square-yard space… It was my first time on screen, and I was a bit nervous initially. However, the WEP staff helped me feel confident. When I watched the video, I was thrilled! My friends and family were impressed, saying it was like a short film with me as the main character…The video has boosted my confidence in speaking and sharing my knowledge with others.” - Kavya, 17
“… I learned about this technique during WEP permaculture training and implemented it on my family's land. Before the training, my family was giving up farming due to water scarcity. But thanks to the permaculture training, I learned about rainwater harvesting systems and implemented the sunken pond. This has allowed my family and me to continue farming. Through the masterclass video, I hope to inspire others facing water scarcity …” - Divya, 17
