Our Reforestation Efforts! Your Support Matters!

By Michaelle M. | Project Assistant

Due to low funding, Lambi has not been able to support new project efforts to combat the deforestation issues. Nonetheless, Lambi continues to receive updates on the several organizations that collectively produced over 300,000 seedlings. The organizations are dedicated to maintaining and preserving the health of their trees. During the summer, several areas experienced usually low rainfall which contributed to drought conditions in many regions. The drier than average conditions were a cause of concerns for many of the organizations with the dryest conditions experienced this past September. Despite the challenges, the Organizations worked tirelessly to keep their many plants irrigated.

Efforts are continuous to educate the community concerning the effects of deforestation. The organizations raise awareness of consumption habits and deforestation. In addition, sustainable practices are taught quite often. The primary cause of deforestation in Haiti is the result of the production of charcoal and expansion of agricultural. Therefore, the Organizations educate other members of the community on alternatives for generating charcoal that does not involve destroying the forest regions. These methods involve utilizing the use of organic waste materials such as palm kernel shells and briquettes (which are made from recycling the waste of paper products) to create charcoal for cooking purposes. Every collective effort, whether it be small or great, ensures that habits are shifting to adopt a more sustainable and environmentally friendly method of sourcing charcoal.

Please continue to support our Reforestation initiatives!
