Despite severe resource limitations and the rapidly growing humanitarian needs in the Amhara region, the Help Life-Saving Support to Displaced People in Ethiopia project continues to deliver critical emergency assistance to internally displaced people (IDPs). Through the strategic use of the limited funds available and the generous contributions received via GlobalGiving, MHO has sustained life-saving humanitarian operations and ensured that the most vulnerable households receive urgent and dignified support. The reporting period has been characterized by escalating needs driven by displacement, food insecurity, limited access to health services, and poor water and sanitation conditions. In this challenging context, the project has remained focused on rapid, targeted, and high-impact interventions that protect lives and restore basic human dignity.

During this period, the financial support received was primarily utilized to provide emergency food assistance and essential relief items to the most vulnerable displaced families. A total of 50 households received comprehensive support packages that included life-saving food supplies, specialized nutrition rations for children and pregnant and lactating women, and essential medical and hygiene materials. These interventions have been critical in preventing acute malnutrition, reducing exposure to disease, and stabilizing the health conditions of beneficiaries who had lost access to their livelihoods and basic services. In addition, reproductive health kits and dignity kits were distributed to women and girls, enabling them to manage their health and hygiene safely and with dignity in displacement settings where such services are often unavailable. This support has significantly reduced protection risks and improved the wellbeing and confidence of female beneficiaries.

Access to safe water and sanitation remains one of the most urgent needs in the displacement sites. In response, the project invested in the provision of water storage facilities, hygiene kits, washing materials, and basic WASH infrastructure. Water tanks and sanitation supplies have enabled families to access and store safe water, practice proper hygiene, and reduce the spread of waterborne diseases. These interventions have led to visible improvements in environmental health conditions within the targeted community and have contributed to lowering the vulnerability of children and elderly people to preventable illnesses. The integration of food, nutrition, health, and WASH support ensured a holistic humanitarian response and maximized the impact of the limited available resources.

Beyond the immediate delivery of relief items, the project has strengthened community trust and reinforced the presence of locally led humanitarian action in hard-to-reach and high-need areas. Beneficiary feedback indicates that the assistance arrived at a critical time when many families had exhausted all coping mechanisms and were facing extreme food shortages and deteriorating health conditions. The support has not only saved lives but has also restored hope and a sense of solidarity among displaced communities who often feel forgotten.

However, the needs on the ground remain far greater than the current level of available resources. Many displaced families are still waiting for assistance, and the rising cost of food, medical supplies, and transportation continues to affect the scale of the response. In the coming period, MHO aims to expand the number of households reached, strengthen the nutrition response for children and mothers, and scale up WASH services to prevent disease outbreaks. Additional funding will be essential to maintain continuity of life-saving interventions and to transition from emergency relief to early recovery support for affected communities.

This progress has been made possible because of the compassion and commitment of GlobalGiving donors and partners. Your support has enabled MHO to respond quickly and effectively in a highly fragile humanitarian context, saving lives, protecting health, and restoring dignity for displaced families in the Amhara region. With continued partnership, we will be able to reach more vulnerable people and provide the sustained assistance required to help them survive, recover, and rebuild their live
