Tiny Miracles and Big Hopes at Al-Mustafa NICU

By Ahmed Raza | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

The Al-Mustafa NICU team is proud to share our progress for the second quarter of 2025. With your unwavering support, we’ve continued to provide life-saving care to premature and critically ill newborns, ensuring brighter futures for families in need. Below are the highlights of our achievements and challenges from this quarter.

Key Statistics at a Glance

1. Monthly Birth Rate at AMH

The hospital witnessed a steady flow of deliveries, with a notable peak in May:

  • March: 65 births
  • April: 63 births
  • May: 91 births (highest this quarter)
  • June: 65 births

2. Premature Birth Rate

Prematurity remains a critical focus. We observed fluctuations, with May requiring heightened NICU resources:

  • March: 13 preterm births
  • April: 13 preterm births
  • May: 17 preterm births (urgent interventions needed)
  • June: 7 preterm births (lowest, reflecting positive trends)

3. Low Birth Weight Rate

Babies born under 2.5 kg received specialised care:

  • March: 20 cases
  • April: 20 cases
  • May: 29 cases
  • June: 18 cases

4. NICU Admissions & Outcomes

  • Total NICU Admissions (Mar-Jun): 246 neonates
  • Critical Care Interventions: 42 babies required ventilator support.

5. Challenges & Future Goals

  • May Surge: Highlighted the need for additional incubators and staff.
  • Community Outreach: Plans to educate mothers on prenatal care to reduce preterm births.

None of this would be possible without your generosity. Every donation translates into a fighting chance for babies.
