Dear Valued Donors,
Literacy is the foundational skill that unlocks a lifetime of opportunity. It is the core of our mission and the reason we embarked on this journey to support at-risk children across Africa. Your belief in this vision has been our cornerstone, and for that, we are immensely grateful.
This quarter, we faced significant obstacles that forced us to make a difficult decision. It is with a heavy heart that I report we had to temporarily suspend our weekly literacy classes due to funding and logistical challenges.
While this is a setback, our commitment to these children is unwavering. We are writing to you today not only to be transparent about our current situation but also to reinforce our dedication to relaunching this vital program. We believe that with your continued partnership, we can overcome this hurdle and reopen our classroom doors to the children who are eagerly waiting.
The Unwavering Vision: Why This Project is CriticalThe power of literacy cannot be overstated. It is the fundamental driver of all the positive changes education brings to humanity. Global studies show that simply learning to read and write could lift 171 million people out of poverty.
This is the reality we are working to create. The BMAN Literacy Project was designed to expand into urban and rural communities, providing a comprehensive, 12-hour weekly program to equip at-risk children with proficiency in:
Writing and Speaking Skills
Reading Recovery and Comprehension
Critical Listening Skills
These are not just lessons; they are lifelines.
A Temporary Pause in OperationsThis past quarter, we were unfortunately unable to continue our weekly literacy classes. This halt in operations was a direct result of two interconnected issues:
Funding Shortfall: We experienced a critical gap in operational funds, which directly impacted our ability to purchase essential learning materials, provide snacks for the children, and cover stipends for our dedicated tutors.
Logistical Hurdles: Rising transportation costs and challenges in securing a consistent, accessible location for our classes made it untenable to gather the children and staff safely and reliably.
Faced with these challenges, we chose to pause the project rather than deliver a program that did not meet the high standards of quality and care that these children deserve. The children and their families have been informed, and we have promised to work tirelessly to resume the program as soon as possible.
Our Path Forward: A Call for Renewed SupportOur resolve has only been strengthened by this challenge. Our immediate goal is to secure the necessary resources to relaunch the Literacy Project for at least the next two quarters. Your support is now more critical than ever.
A renewed donation will directly contribute to:
Securing a stable venue for our classes.
Purchasing updated books and writing materials for every child.
Covering transportation costs to ensure both children and tutors can attend consistently.
Re-engaging our tutors and restarting the 12-hour weekly curriculum.
We are actively exploring cost-saving measures and new community partnerships, but your direct financial support is the most crucial element to turning the lights back on for this project.
Thank YouThank you for taking the time to read this important update. You have been a vital part of this journey, and we hope you will continue to stand with us as we navigate this challenge. Together, we can ensure that this temporary pause is just that—a brief intermission before we continue the life-changing work of bringing literacy to the children who need it most.
With sincere gratitude,
