The Living Libraries Project strengthens four community libraries by providing new books for children and adolescents in vulnerable communities. With just $18, one book is purchased, expanding access to reading, learning, and imagination. With a $3,000 goal, this project will transform libraries into vibrant spaces of knowledge and opportunity for hundreds of young people.Biblioteca Energia do Conhecimento was inaugurated on October 17, 2011 and continues to inspire children and youth.
Many children and adolescents served by our institution have limited access to updated and diverse books. Although we already maintain four community libraries, their collections are insufficient to meet the growing demand and to stimulate reading habits effectively. Without adequate access to books, these young people face barriers to educational development and fewer opportunities for personal and cultural growth.
This project will strengthen four community libraries by expanding and diversifying their book collections with carefully selected titles that meet the educational and cultural needs of children and adolescents. By filling library shelves with new and inspiring books, the project will transform these spaces into more dynamic learning environments, stimulate reading habits, and ensure that young people gain access to knowledge, imagination, and opportunities that were previously limited.
The impact of this project will extend far beyond the initial purchase of books. Once the books arrive at the libraries, they will continue to educate, inspire, and connect generations of children and adolescents. Each book will pass through many hands, nurturing imagination, critical thinking, and a love for learning. Over time, these libraries will remain living spaces of knowledge, creating lasting educational and cultural impact for the community.
