Bumi Sehat Bali opened a sister clinic in Mataram, Lombok after the devestating 2018 earthquake in north Lombok and the Gilis. The area was already underserved by birth and health services before the quake. Even as Bali tourism is back to pre-pandemic levels, tourism hasn't returned to Lombok. Many people are still unable to find work and unable to afford healthcare. This is why our by-donation clinic is crucial in serving the Mataram community.
Our midwives are the heart of Bumi Sehat Lombok. They've delivered hundreds of babies with skill and love. Two years ago, the Indonesian government changed the licensing requirements for midwives, adding an extra mandatory year of training to be able to keep praticing as a midwife across Indonesia.
We've given this additional training to our Bali, Aceh and Papua midwives. Three of our Lombok midwives have been funded for this extra year of training. We still need to find funding to finish training the other three midwives. This way, they can keep delivering the gentle, loving, women-to-woman model of care that we give every mother, regardless of a family's ability to pay.
Although this is a new project and hasn't yet received much funding, we expect that we will be able to raise the funds to train our last Lombok midwives with your generous support.
with love and gratitude,
Ibu Robin Lim & Team Bumi Sehat
