We are thrilled to report on the progess of the LRC Annex building. Our new building is taking shape and the architect, engineer and contractor are extremely pleased with the quality of craftsmanship by the crew. As you will see in the pictures, the walls are going up and we are beginning to see the shape of the building. Moving from architectural drawings to a real building is exciting for the entire community. Watch this VIDEO to get a glimpse of the construction.
Early in May we learned that BookAid International, a UK charity, is donating 3,000 high quality new books for our library. This fabulous donation will help us get close to 15,000 books by the time we open the library. Currently, many of the books are stored in boxes that we bring out for School Book Days. Once the new library is open, we will stock the shelves while also continuing School Book Days with our "Magic School Bus" bringing books to our partner schools.
Our work to strengthen education in rural Kenya would not be possible without donors like you. Thank you for supporting the building of the LRC Annex. We are sure that you are equally excited that Wamunyu will have its first proper LIBRARY and that our staff will not be cramped in one small office space in the current LRC. Thanks to a grant from St. Margaret's Church, we also received funds to create a Maker Space in the LRC. By next year students will be borrowing books from the library, looking through microscopes in the Maker Space and building robots, while Mamas will be using our sewing machines to create products to sell and job seekers will be using our computers.
Thank you for donating to the building of the LRC Annex. We were EXCITED to launch the project and we are even more EXCITED watching it become a reality.
