We're Getting Closer! Bricks, Flooring and Details

"I am very excited about the construction of the LRC Annex since it will house a new modern library where many students will be flocking to borrow books and participate in library programs! During school breaks, they can study and do research in a quiet learning environment. The dream of Kenya Connect becoming "The Village that Reads" is becoming a reality. I will be beaming when I see LitMom members design, create and make a variety of items in the Maker Space using sewing machines."  Librarian Esther Muinde

Reflections are vital components in teacher professional development. A space that offers a serene environment suitable for reflection is just perfect for such sessions. I'm all smiles getting to see the LRC Annex coming along nicely. The beautiful Yatta plateau view from the roof top conference space will always be my happy place to conduct our reflection Teacher PLC sessions. It will be a safe and tranquil space for teachers to meditate and enrich their knowledge in our all inclusive library just a minute walk to the first floor. I can't wait for its launch and commissioning. Rabbeca Migwambo  - PLC Coordinator

Except for the roof and windows, the outside structure of the LRC Annex is complete!  Craftsmen are now installing the Terrazzo floor, the decorative brick work, and wall plaster.  Our staff is working with contractors to select the solar panel system and internet provider.  Small groups are discussing the types of murals to paint on the library walls and how to make the space a bright beacon of knowledge and stories!

Water is always at the forefront of our minds, and in addition to the shallow well dug with support from a PayPal Gives grant, the LRC Annex will have 10,000 litre containers to capture water during the rains.

On Wednesday, November 10 Kenya Connect will be hosting a virtual Field Trip to Wamunyu which will include a chapati making lesson, videos of our work in Kenya and a tour of the LRC Annex.  We would love to have you join us for this FREE event.  Here's a link to register.  Feel free to share with your friends.

In the pictures included in the report you will see steps.  All these steps will be painted like a spine of a book.  Donors who give $1,000 during GivingTuesday or the End of the Year campaign will get to choose the book to be painted on the steps!  Just think, your childhood favorite could be represented in the LRC Annex!

Thank you for helping to make this building become a reality.  We will be opening the building in 2022-- Our 20th Anniversary year!
