Through Education We Sow The Seed Towards a Greener Future

By Sonya Danchik | Founder

Dear Supporters,

We welcomed another True Nature service project group last month, March and April are truly the hottest of months and working outside is grueling for locals, let alone tourists - but volunteers, teachers and students were hard at work in our garden and outdoor space. We were all dirty, sweaty and some covered in paint by the end of the day, but we had a lot of fun while ticking off some much needed projects off our to do list.We managed to get quite a few grow bags ready with soil we have been getting ready since last year, by piling leaves. We also planted lots of seeds that should be ready to replant in the raining season.

We recently celebrated International Women's Day with some fun activities that made students question male and female roles. Followed by International Book Day, where students and teachers dress as a character from their favorite book. We set up a reading circuit that students moved through, where they enjoyed listening to stories read by teachers in reading circles around the school. We also celebrated International Theatre Day, where we set up a little stage and students performed in front of their peers with props and costumes.

We are continuing with our "No more single use plastic" campaign, and parents have let us know that our students have been very diligent at birthday parties - requesting no single use plastic and also asking guests to bring their own water bottles, as well as taking reusable bags when their parents go to the supermarket.

We have also started a campaign that encourages students to collect rubbish every time they go to the beach. These are small things we can all do globally, with the main message being to refuse single use plastic.

Through education we sow the seed towards a greener future.

With Love,

Sonya Danchik
