Human Stories, Real Impact: 2024 Report

By Anastasiia Baraniuk | Specialist of Individual Fundraising

Our dearest Friend,

First of all, we want to thank you. Thank you for every kind gesture, every thoughtful donation, every moment of care and compassion you offered last year.

Your support is extremely important for the children fighting cancer, for their families and for the entire team that works to make the impossible possible. As we look back on 2024, we want to share the impact you've helped us create.

More help for children

Thanks to your generosity, we expanded our support in 2024. The number of families in our In-Hospital Quality of Life program expanded by 25%. Mental health support increased by 19%. The aid provided in each of the Foundation's programs grew.

Education for doctors

To help children recover and reduce the long-term effects of treatment, we invest in the people who save lives — doctors.

In 2024, we continued our educational initiative “Know-HOW”, which is made to strengthen and deepen the knowledge and skills of medical professionals.

Over two years, participants in this program attend international conferences, complete courses at a leading European cancer center, improve communication skills with patients and earn a master’s degree in healthcare public administration, etc.

Mental health support

When a child becomes seriously ill, it turns the family's world upside down. When there is war in the country, constant shelling and fear for life, the emotional pressure can be overwhelming.

Our psychologists provide support to children and their families throughout treatment. Now this program includes support for medical staff as well. It involves help to cope with stress, find inner resources and remain mentally stable in the face of fear, exhaustion or hopelessness.

In 2024, 417 children and their family members received psychological care — almost 20% more than in 2023.

The attack on Okhmatdyt

In 2024, Ukraine’s largest children’s hospital “Okhmatdyt” suffered a missile attack. One building was completely destroyed. Two more buildings became impossible to use. The blast wave damaged the modern new building, the heart of the hospital.

And at the same time, the treatment was not interrupted for a single day. Thanks to your immediate response, we managed to raise more than $2.59 million for “Okhmatdyt”.

We also coordinated the hospital's reconstruction. Viacheslav Bykov, the foundation's executive director, joined the Okhmatdyt Restoration Council under the Ministry of Health. It helps to ensure transparency, and strengthen the hospital.

In-hospital quality of life

Children often spend months in hospitals far from home, friends, and everyday joys. But cancer cannot stop childhood.

Thanks to your support, we made hospital walls filled with laughter, creativity and joy — things illness cannot take away.

In 2024, we organized:

  • over 400 creative workshops;
  • 115 joyful discharge celebrations;
  • 21 beauty days for mothers.
Survivorship care

Even after treatment ends, challenges continue. Life doesn’t return to “normal” overnight.

Months or sometimes years of illness can destroy friendships, career, and emotional balance. That’s why we support not just children who had cancer, but also their siblings, parents.

In 2024, we hosted:

  • 2 summer rehabilitation camps in the Carpathians
  • 3 family teambuilding weekends
  • 2 family retreats
  • 75 meetings of the teen support club

And that’s not all

Targeted family support, outpatient housing, palliative care — this and other aspects of our work help children to be children even in the darkest times. Because of you, care took place in every moment — in every treatment, in every smile at a workshop, in every hug at a family camp.

We sincerely thank you for being with us. In our full report, we share more about the work you made possible.
