Where do women's rights truly begin?

By Anastasiia Baraniuk | Specialist of Individual Fundraising

Dear Friend,

Every year on March 8, the world marks International Women’s Day — a moment to celebrate women’s achievements and stand for equality. But we often forget where those rights truly begin. They begin with a girl's most basic right of all — the right to grow up.

Kateryna is two years old. She is the kind of child who fears nothing. Not the tiny bugs she'd crouch down to study on the sidewalk. Not the tall staircase her mother perpetually rescued her from. The world, to Kateryna, was an endlessly exciting place to explore.

Then, just days after her second birthday, something happened that no child should ever have to face. Stage IV cancer left her so weak that she could no longer even turn her head. The diagnosis came suddenly, and the fight began immediately.

Over the past two months, Kateryna has completed four rounds of chemotherapy. Today, she is is walking and playing again. But her journey is not over. She still needs 4–6 additional chemotherapy cycles, followed by surgery, immunotherapy, and radiation to give her a real chance at recovery.

Vika is also two. Her treatment began in August 2024, and she has been fighting ever since. In February, she underwent major surgery and is still recovering in the hospital today.

You would not know it from looking at her. Vika makes friends with everyone — doctors, nurses, the entire ward staff — and greets each morning the same way: with open arms and a hug for anyone willing to accept one.

International Women’s Day is a reminder of the strength, leadership, and potential within every girl. One day, these children could become scientists, entrepreneurs, teachers, innovators, leaders — people who shape industries and transform communities. Their potential is limitless. But first, they need to recover.

Please, make a donation today. Help Kateryna, Viktoriia, and hundreds of other girls get back their most fundamental right — the right to a future.
