Evacuating Orphans & Families, Bringing Aid

In July, Kidsave’s humanitarian team returned once again to the war-torn regions of Mykolaiv and Kherson — carrying more than food and aid. We brought presence. We brought connection. And most importantly, we brought hope. 

As the war in Ukraine fades from global headlines, the reality on the ground remains devastating. Families continue to endure shelling, displacement, and the trauma of interrupted lives. For many children, the idea of a carefree summer is a distant memory. But thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, we were able to bring a glimmer of joy and security back into their lives — if even just for a moment. 

This month, we reached more than 1,600 families across 12 villages and towns in Mykolaiv and Kherson, delivering essential items like food, hygiene kits, and household supplies. These weren’t just deliveries — they were reminders that these families are not alone, and that someone still cares deeply about what they’re going through. 

In communities like Kobzartsi, Prybuzke, and Voskresenske, where infrastructure is still recovering and access is limited, your support met families at their doorsteps.

A Focus on the Most Vulnerable 

Beyond the numbers — over 1,300 children helped, 50 families with children with disabilities supported, and hundreds of displaced families reached — are faces and stories. Children who haven't played in safety for months. Mothers navigating trauma while trying to provide stability. Elderly neighbors left behind in rural towns, leaning on community aid to survive. 

Together, we ensured that support was not just widespread, but deeply personal. Every package, every interaction was an opportunity to show care, to listen, and to honor their humanity. 

Healing Through Connection 

At our Mykolaiv Children and Family Support Center, we continued to nurture healing and connection. Throughout July, small moments became lifelines. 

• On July 3, a simple walk through town turned magical — children danced in fountains, played games, and laughed over warm pizza. It was a day to just be kids again. 

• On July 11, mothers found solace in a mental wellness session led by our partner NGO Perspektyva. One mom called it “an emotional reboot” — a rare chance to pause and be heard. 

• And on July 24, a creative workshop brought displaced children together for crafts, snacks, and silliness. “No one wanted to leave,” our team noted. In those hours, fear was replaced with laughter. 

Moments like these don’t erase the pain — but they remind families that they still matter, and that there’s still beauty and joy to be found even in crisis. 

Looking Ahead 

As we continue this work, we remain committed to walking alongside those most affected: children, families living with disability, the elderly, and those still displaced. Beyond the necessities, we strive to restore what war has stripped away — dignity, trust, and human connection.

As the war continues to devastate communities across Ukraine, Kidsave’s team remains committed to reaching those most in need—particularly families living in remote villages near the frontline. These areas, often overlooked, continue to suffer from ongoing destruction and isolation. Despite the risks, our mission is clear: no one should be left behind. 

Many of the villages we serve have seen little to no outside help. They are home to families with children, elderly people, and others who, for various reasons, cannot leave. With roads often damaged and communications disrupted, life in these communities is incredibly difficult. But through determination, care, and the support of our donors, we have been able to bring hope and essential aid to these forgotten places. 

To meet basic needs, Kidsave regularly delivers food supplies to ensure families have access to nutrition, along with clothing and shoes for children and adults alike. Heating materials are provided to help families survive the harsh winters, and we distribute medical supplies to support basic health and emergency care.  

In recent months, we’ve delivered 7,023 food packages to families in need. Vegetables were distributed to 1,365 families, totaling over 19,000 kilograms. We provided 115 tons of fuel briquettes to help 393 families heat their homes during the cold season. Clothing, including warm coats and shoes, amounting to 600 kilograms. A major highlight was our partnership with Samaritan’s Purse, which resulted in a truckload of food supplies—enough to feed 1,500 families, with each household receiving about 14 kilograms of food. 

With the arrival of spring, we’ve launched a new initiative: seed distribution to help local residents plant gardens and grow their own food. In these uncertain times, the ability to grow food brings not only practical nourishment but also resilience and a renewed sense of hope for the future. A small package of seeds might not seem like much, but in the hands of a determined family, it becomes a powerful symbol of survival, growth, and life pushing forward despite the odds. It represents the ability to rebuild, to care for loved ones, and to take control in a world that has felt out of control for far too long. 

Alongside our humanitarian outreach, Kidsave continues to support families through our Support Center for Children and Families in Mykolaiv, where we provide moral, psychological, and material assistance to children impacted by the ongoing crisis. Our goal is to create a nurturing, safe environment where children can heal and rediscover joy. Through regular art therapy sessions led by trained professionals, children process trauma, express emotions creatively, and rebuild trust in their surroundings. This past month, we organized a special excursion to the local zoo—a simple outing that brought immense joy and lasting memories. For many children, it was one of the best days of their lives. 

More than just therapy, the center fosters emotional relief and community bonding. Children begin to form new friendships, laugh together, and support one another. These moments of connection and shared happiness are important for displaced children who’ve lost so much. So far, 2,341 children have received humanitarian assistance, 149 visited the Support Office for structured activities, and 23 joined our memorable zoo excursion.
