A powerful 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck in the province of Davao Oriental in Mindanao resulting to thousands being affected. Countless livelihoods have been lost and communities bereft with water and sanitation. We will provide water and sanitation packages in order to prevent epidemic as well as small farming livelihood support to 7 barrios the municipality of Manay which is one of most affected. We will target 2,000 families in this initiative.
The earthquake has devastated a wide area across Davao Oriental and local governments are having a hard time coping with the extent of the disaster. We are very experienced in responding to extreme disasters in the country with our signature water and sanitation and small livelihood solutions and our response is direct, fueled by our experts and local volunteers. While we focus on one municipality at the initial phase, we intend to expand our area coverage as we progress.
We are responding to the earthquake by focusing on the most vulnerable and those living in remote communities. Initially we will be providing robust water filters in order to ensure clean, safe drinking water and to prevent the occurrence of water-borne diseases cause by bacteria, repair damaged latrines and provide small-farm livelihood support. The main goal is to prevent water-borne epidemic and improve nutrition and income of beneficiaries.
Long-term recovery is our end-goal and we can do this with our proven water and sanitation and small livelihood intervention especially focused in remote, hard to reach villages. The well-being and health of those affected by the earthquake is our primary concern.
