MH Nutrition Project – Annual Report 2024

Dear donor,

We would like to express our most profound and sincere gratitude for all your contributions. Due to the help awarded by each one of you, the Mision Huascaran Nutrition Program continues to thrive and expand.

Below we share the MH Nutrition Program Progress Report for 2024

Nutrition improvements of the reported period:

  1. In 2024, our anti-anemia bakery produced 312,.385 iron-enriched bread rolls to feed 793 children and pregnant women from Huashcao, Canchapampa, Congar, Punyan, Amashca, Pariaqaqa, Pariahuanca and Huaypan villages.

  2. Fish distribution continued monthly, handing out 2 tons of frozen fish on each occasion, benefitting over 3.000 rural households, in total in 2024 34 tons of frozen fish were distributed.

  3. The egg laying hen project at the Pariaqaqa school produced 19.587 free-range eggs. In 2024, 134 school going children will have an additional daily boiled egg for lunch. Each egg provides invaluable nutrients for the children’s physical development. As such, the project is improving the protein intake of the children, providing 6 grams of additional protein and all essential amino acids.

  4. Almost 5.000 fortified milk products were distributed to vulnerable segments of the population, in between the bread, fish, milk products and vegetables garden we made significant headway in the improvement of the food security in the intervention zone.

  5. Our nutritionists led 474 community educational activities, benefitting +25.000 beneficiaries from 35 rural communities in topics such as nutrition, health and hygiene.

  6. The agro-technicians from Misión Huascarán supervised almost 230 vegetable gardens. Vegetable gardens are an important tool in the quest to improve food security for the rural families, making them more resilient and sustainable in the long term.

  7. Thanks to a yearlong effort, we could add another successful year in the fight against anemia, all intervened population groups showed significant progress. For the 6th year in a row, Misión Huascarán has managed to lower the anemia prevalence in the treated population around the 10% mark, which is 75% lower than the national rural average in Peru in similar populations.

To continue expanding our reach, we require all the help you can give – utilizing the GlobalGiving platform.  The world continuously makes us face great challenges for our societies; and the children are the light and hope at the end of the tunnel for a bright future.

We thank you for all the help you’ve given and will continue to give in the future.
