Since our last update, many families remain displaced in temporary shelters or rental housing due to safety concerns, with limited sustainable long-term shelter solutions available. Making matters more difficult, the military has continued to bomb the affected region, especially Sagaing. In the midst of these challenges, we are grateful our partners are there on the frontlines to support them.

We recently sent several grants to high-impact nonprofits from this fund. Here is a short description of their work:

  • Suwannimit Foundation is supporting communities affected by the earthquake by working through trusted local partners to procure and distribute urgently needed supplies. These include oral rehydration salts, purified water, food, tarpaulins, mosquito nets, hygiene kits, solar panels, first aid supplies, and mental health support.
  • OISCA International, with more than 20+ years working in Myanmar, responded immediately  to the earthquakes by mobilizing staff and volunteers to clear earthquake debris in the Mandalay Region. Now, the team is providing food and drinking water to disaster survivors and is also constructing water treatment facilities, offering sustainable farming training, and providing farm equipment and agricultural inputs (such as seeds) to families who lost them in the earthquake.

Our partners are making an impact in the immediate and long term. Still, there is much work to be done.  As the Baan Unrak Foundation team shared:

“Right now, the situation remains very challenging. It has been raining heavily, and we are particularly concerned for the small children who are still without proper shelter. Your contribution will make a real difference for them, and for so many others still in urgent need.”

Your support of the GlobalGiving Myanmar and Thailand Earthquake Relief Fund is advancing community-led recovery, and is ensuring families receive critical resources to help them stay safe in the rebuilding process.

This fund is no longer accepting donations, and this will be the last fund report of this kind from our team. However, we hope you will consider giving directly to our nonprofit partners who could benefit from your ongoing solidarity.

Thank you again for your generosity and standing with humanity beside our nonprofit community.

With gratitude,

Kyra + the GlobalGiving Team

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
