We have had a busy few weeks with the New Dawn project with the following activity completed:

·       Food Bank Operations: 7 food banks reached 503 households (over 2,500 people), including 985 children and 39 individuals with disabilities. The initiative generated a surplus of £463 for future restocking thus far.

·       Food Grant Distribution: Delivered 8,640 kg of rice, 1,626 kg of dal, and 888 litres of oil to 241 households (over 1,200 people) in 7 communities.

·       Healthcare Access: Emergency medical referrals and supplies supported home-based clinics for urgent health needs.

·       Monitoring & Evaluation: Nutrition assessments using recognised tools showed:

  • 98% of households used at least one coping strategy (e.g. reduced portion sizes, borrowing food, opting for less preferred foods)
  • 61% had poor food consumption scores
  • 9% of children screened were malnourished (moderate or severe)
  • Only 8% scored within acceptable food consumption levels

Our assessments clearly indicate that food assistance remains a vital need for Myanmar refugee communities. Continued support through food banks and related interventions is essential to address ongoing nutritional challenges.

Field reports emphasized that while refugees feel welcomed by host communities, food assistance remains crucial amid limited external support.

One of our Programme Officers, shared his observations from food deliveries:

“Most refugees express satisfaction with life in the camps, feeling well treated by the local community despite financial hardships. They appreciate the food bank restocks, especially as no other NGOs are currently providing assistance. While some families have limited food stock from prior NGO support, many are now struggling to afford food items from local markets.”

The food bank project has made an impact across 14 Myanmar refugee communities, improving food security, supporting education and responding to health needs. In addition, the project generated a profit, which is now being reinvested to fund more food banks. We remain dedicated to supporting conflict-impacted populations and will continue to adapt our response strategies accordingly.

Thank you for your continued support.
