We did it! Thanks to many generous donors, our Phages for Global Health crowdfunding campaign was extremely successful, with over $30,000 contributed or pledged in just 1 month. Those donations were instrumental in encouraging additional private and foundation support to come forward, such that our phage training program in East Africa is now fully funded!
We are now preparing to hold the 2-week workshop July 10 - 21, 2017, at Makerere University. Our leadership team decided to move the training program from Kenya to Uganda, which has the benefit of slightly decreasing overall costs while still enabling us to work at a leading university in East Africa.
As we have started the process of selecting the 20 participants for the workshop, there has been considerable enthusiasm from the East African scientific community. The demand for this workshop is so strong that we hope to organize additional training workshops in years to come!
