We hope you have been well. August is a very special month for us, since it marks the start of a new beggining here in ONI. More than 5 years ago, concerned about the malnutrition cycle that affects the Wixarika Communities in the northern region of Jalisco, we noticed that good child nutrition does not necesarily start when babies are born, but from the womb. Mothers constitute a significant pillar in children development, but most importantly: the nutritional health of a mother conditions the future of the baby’s health.
With this premise in mind, we developed an investigation comitte (in collaboration with a prestigious mexican university) in aims to know more about maternal and child health, in order to have a proper and sustainable approach. This way ‘ONImaterna’ was created, a new branch of our programs targeted to pregnant and lactating women in the Sierra Wixarika. Women now will access to nutritional health services carried out by our nutritionists, while also being provided with a high nutritional impact formula that keeps them and their babies safe from malnutrition.
Thanks to your help, it is possible to help more women and children in the Sierra Wixarika!
