Gratitude- How Your Support Is Restoring Lives at Maitri Ghar

Dear Donor, Friends and Wellwishers,

Your support is more than a donation; it is a lifeline. At Maitri Ghar Ashram, our mission is to ensure that elderly widowed women—too often abandoned or forgotten—can live their lives with the dignity and security they deserve.

When I write to you expressing gratitude, I see faces—the lined faces of elderly women who thought their stories had ended on Vrindavan's streets. Your compassion and generosity has given them new chapters. At Maitri Ghar Ashram, we care for 165 elderly widows who were abandoned by their families after their husbands died.

This report shares how your recent contribution became warm blankets, nourishing milk, and hope for women who had none.

Where Your Support Is Making a Difference

We understand respect “Hunger weakens more than the body.” Our aim is to reach as many elderly women we can reach to ensure no one sleeps on a hungry stomach.

We are prioritizing the health and comfort of our mothers through two primary channels:

 1. Nutrition and Health

Proper nourishment is the first step toward health. We are currently procuring:

Fresh Daily Supplies: Consistent and dailyaccess to milk and seasonal fruits.

Nutritious Meals: Balanced daily lunch and dinner tailored for elderly health needs. Meals rich in protein and vitamins, designed for aging bodies

2. Seasonal Protection (Winter Relief)

As temperatures drop, the vulnerability of our residents increases. To combat the harsh weather, because Vrindavan is located on the banks of Yamuna River. Because of you:

  • Every resident receives a thick woollen blanket/ comforter to keep them warm
  • Thermal clothing that protects them from cold and shivering chills

A Life Restored: Nanda Ma's Story

Among the women your generosity has touched is 72-year-old Nanda Ma, who arrived at Maitri Ghar six years ago weighing just 42 kg, her frail body racked by persistent coughs from years of sleeping on Vrindavan's streets. Abandoned by her family after her husband's death, she survived on scavenged food and thin cotton saris through brutal summers and winters.

Your support changed everything:

  • Your support has provided her with warmth and daily milk, fruits and proper lunch and dinner she hadn't tasted in years. "I felt human again," she whispered.
  •  Consistent food and nutrition added 6 kg to her frame; her coughs subsided as she got treated
  • Today Nanda Ma leads morning prayers, her voice strong, helping feed newer arrivals.
  • She helps feed new arrivals, her hands steady now.
  • "You gave me my life back," she says. "Now I can give to others."

Nanda Ma’s smile is the outcome/ impact of your support. She represents every woman waiting for the same chance.

Nanda Ma's transformation—from skeletal street survivor to ashram elder—embodies your impact. She represents the 165+ women whose stories continue because donors, friends and well wishers like you renew your commitment.

Reaching Beyond Our Walls

The support extends to 250 women from nearby communities who have no shelter. They receive:

  • Monthly rations of grains, dal, and cooking oil
  • Hygiene kits and winter essentials
  • The knowledge that someone remembers them

"We can't house every woman," I often say, "but because of you, none sleep hungry or frozen."

What We Accomplish Together

Health

  • Fewer illnesses
  • Stronger, longer lives

Dignity

  • Basic needs met
  •  Feeling valued again

Community

  • 250+ women fed
  •  A lasting safety net

Our Winter Need

Winter's hardest weeks lie ahead. We try to reach maximum number of vulnerable women to prevent their suffering that Nanda Ma and most others once endured before they came to MaitriGhar.

Extending Our Reach: The Community Impact

The impact of your generosity extends beyond the walls of the Ashram. Maitri currently serves as a beacon of hope for nearly 250 women from the surrounding community.

"While we cannot provide a bed for every woman in need, because of you, we can ensure they do not go hungry or cold."

Through this campaign, these 250 women receive:

  •  Food Security: Supplemental dry rations and essential supplies.
  • A Safety Net: The assurance that they are not alone in their struggle.

A Note of Gratitude

Your continued support and partnership allows us to lead with compassion. By providing for these women, you are helping us rewrite a narrative of abandonment into one of belonging and respect.

On behalf of the women at Maitri Ghar and our community beneficiaries, thank you for standing with us.

With sincere gratitude,

Winnie Singh

Executive Director

Nanda Ma asked me to tell you: "Please don't stop when the weather warms. Our winters return every year, but so does your kindness."

With deep gratitude from all of us at Maitri Ghar,
