Meet Diego - A Story of Strength and New Beginning

By CARMEN SANCHEZ | Program Manager

Diego's graduation with his mother
Diego's graduation with his mother

At just 11 years old, Diego has already faced more challenges than many children his age. He lives with his mother, a courageous woman who bravely overcame breast cancer. During her illness, their family endured some of the hardest moments of their lives—food insecurity, constant uncertainty, and the fear that Diego might not be able to continue his education.

That’s when Fundación Sarahuaro came into their lives.

Through the foundation’s beneficiary program, Diego received daily nutritious meals and a safe environment where he could learn and grow. His mother also found emotional support, guidance, and tools to rebuild her life through Sarahuaro’s programs for women.

Today, Diego has completed elementary school and was recognized for his strong academic performance—a milestone that represents far more than just a certificate. It’s a reflection of resilience, love, and timely support. Inspired by the doctors who cared for his mother, Diego now dreams of becoming a doctor himself so he can help others. But there’s still a long road ahead in his educational journey.

Diego and his mother’s story is a powerful example of how the right support, at the right time, can transform lives. Thanks to Fundación Sarahuaro, they didn’t just survive—they now have hope, and a future full of possibilities
