For Ashwini, a 14 year old from rural Karnataka, life changed drastically when she lost her father three years ago. Suddenly, her mother had to work on others’ farms to keep the family afloat and even basic necessities felt uncertain. Education seemed like a distant dream.
At her most vulnerable moment, the Child Sponsorship Programme stepped in, giving Ashwini the chance to stay in school and join OSCAR’s Football and Life Skills Programme. What began as a way to play football soon became a journey of transformation, helping her build resilience, communication and leadership skills.
A defining moment came when Ashwini met her sponsor for the first time during a visit to Yadgir. Seeing her living conditions and the challenges her family faced, the sponsor extended extra support, with basic needs, transportation for school and education expenses. This generosity gave Ashwini’s family not only financial relief but also the strength to look ahead with hope.
Today, the shy girl once burdened by grief is a confident leader on and off the football field. She dreams of becoming a teacher, determined to inspire others as she was inspired.
For Ashwini, sponsorship has been more than financial aid, it has been a lifeline of love, belief and opportunity.
