By Lucinda Sowerbutts | Director OSCAR India Ltd
It was my privilege to once again represent The OSCAR Foundation's Enabling Change Programme and visit one of the partner schools, the Bombay Institute for the Deaf and Mutes. The OSCAR Foundation supports the girls and boys there through regular sports workshops and interactive games that help them grow in confidence and develop vital communication skills. The young OSCAR team is vibrant, energetic and highly proficient in sign language.
Recently, I had the opportunity to bring guests from the UK. It was wonderful to watch everyone interact, playing volleyball, football and cricket. They even broke a window… oops!
During the visit, the Principal pulled me aside to share a pressing need. 20 children are desperately in need of hearing aids. Many are using old, inadequate devices or have none at all. Surely every child deserves the chance to hear.
OSCAR is now mobilising support to reach even more children and ensure they have every opportunity to shine by getting hearing devices. The cost per child is in the region of 600 USD and worth every penny to see the smiles and hear the laughter.
