Strategic Impact & Comprehensive Care: 2025-2026

By Daniela Risquez | OSCASI

During the 2025–2026 school year, OSCASI has taken a decisive step in strengthening our institutional mission by implementing our five-year Institutional Strategic Plan (2025–2029). This plan was built through a participatory process during the previous period and formally launched at the beginning of this academic year.

This Strategic Plan guides our actions toward guaranteeing comprehensive, high-quality care, focusing not only on the children and adolescents we serve but also on their legal guardians and the entire human team that makes OSCASI’s educational, social, and community work possible. Its implementation has allowed us to streamline processes, prioritize resources, and reaffirm our commitment to alternative education that responds holistically to the realities of the out-of-school population we accompany.

Comprehensive Care as a Central Pillar

Faithful to our educational model, during this school year we have reinforced the link between education, nutrition, and health, understanding that physical and emotional well-being is an indispensable component for the learning and integral development of our students.

Within this framework, in November we held the first Health Day of the 2025–2026 school year, in alliance with Avessoc, consolidating a fundamental space for prevention, timely diagnosis, and medical follow-up for our educational community.

First Health Day – 2025–2026 School Year

On Friday, November 21, 2025, the first Health Day of the school year took place, achieving 97.6% coverage of the total enrollment across both schools.

  • 117 students from EANSC (97.5%) and 46 students from EABC (100%) were treated, for a total of 163 children and adolescents out of 166 enrolled students.
  • This result represents a 6.2% increase in attendance compared to the last session held in May 2025.
  • Only 3 students were absent for justified reasons.

The event took place between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., in an organized and efficient manner. The Avessoc team consisted of 7 pediatricians, 2 general practitioners, 1 medical coordinator, 4 community relations members, and 2 drivers.

The care process included:

  • Organization by order of arrival, prioritizing cases with existing health conditions.
  • Anthropometric measurements for all students and adults treated.
  • Pediatric and general medicine consultations (for those over 14 years old).
  • Treatment instructions and referrals to medical specialties, such as Dermatology, Dentistry, Endocrinology, Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, Nutrition, and Growth and Development.

Additionally, the "commitment acts" mechanism was reintroduced for the representatives of students referred to specialized services in reference hospitals. This ensures responsible follow-up for each case, integrating this information into the students' medical records.

The day also provided general medicine check-ups for 23 adults (22 OSCASI workers and 1 member of the school community), reaffirming our commitment to the care of our staff and the community environment.

Regarding the nutritional component:

  • Students received a balanced breakfast and snack during the day.
  • OSCASI and Avessoc staff were provided with food services throughout the activity, ensuring adequate conditions for medical and educational work.

In general terms, the Health Day was highly positive and well-organized, with encouraging results that reflect the impact of careful planning and coordinated work between allies, staff, and the community.

The 2025–2026 school year marks the beginning of a new stage for OSCASI, in which the Institutional Strategic Plan guides every action to ensure comprehensive, dignified, and quality care for the children and adolescents who need it most. None of this would be possible without the support and trust of our donors, allies, and collaborators, to whom we reiterate our deepest gratitude.
