For many years, Tewa has been a pioneer in promoting community philanthropy in Nepal—believing deeply in the power of people to give, to support, and to create change from within. Tewa doesn’t just raise funds; it nurtures a culture of giving and ownership, rooted in local values and collective responsibility. This spirit of philanthropy is not limited to financial contributions—it is expressed through time, energy, leadership, and heart.
One beautiful example of this is the story of the Machhapuchhre Group, a team of volunteers formed by Tewa as part of its ongoing commitment to grassroots leadership and fundraising. The group was led by Ms. Khadka (volunteer of 2014), a long-time Tewa volunteer whose passion and dedication embody the very essence of local giving. Vision was simple yet powerful: to inspire a group of ordinary individuals to achieve something extraordinary through collective effort.
With ten committed volunteers by her side, Ms. Khadka introduced a fundraising model called “Khutrukke" (piggy bank) —a traditional Nepali concept of saving small amounts over time. Each volunteer took on the task of mobilizing support from their own communities, families, and networks, gathering contributions bit by bit with care and dedication.
Together, the group raised an impressive amount of Rs. 12,253/- (USD 90.00), not just as a financial accomplishment, but as a symbol of the community’s belief in giving, sharing, and standing together.
The Machhapuchhre Group’s story reminds us that when leadership meets community spirit, even the smallest contributions can create a powerful ripple of impact. With committed volunteers like Ms. Khadka and her team, the future of local, self-sustained philanthropy in Nepal is bright and hopeful.
